YouTube

I've been using YouTube for a long time. It's a great site to find video clips of almost anything. The best part is, anyone can upload videos on the site. I chose the above video because it shows how people's videos can get really big just by people finding them on youtube. The person that made this video later went on to do art for music videos and other things. The library can use youtube to post footage from programs that have been filmed in the library itself.

LibraryThing

This website is good to find and create tags that can be used in our OPAC. It is interesting to find recommendations and to browse books in other peoples libraries.

Delicious

The website itself seems pretty helpful but in all reality this just serves as another search engine (such as Google or Yahoo). This site can work well for people who are curious about what other people in the Library are interested in. Otherwise, it provides easy access to frequently visited websites.

The tag cloud in our OPAC is a good idea. It allows people to find other books they may be interested in by clicking on a related subject.

Myspace & Facebook

I have been using Myspace for a long time, probably since it came out. At first I was very skeptical about using it but i eventually warmed up to it. I pretty much did the same thing with Facebook, which i haven't been using for too long. I am partial to Myspace because I have been using it longer and I feel like it is more user-friendly. Although, I have noticed throughout the years, Facebook and Myspace have started to use the same applications and copy each other in various ways.

The library's Facebook & Myspace pages are both relatively new, and subsequently haven't seen too much activity. Once the word is spread about the page, more and more people will begin to use it. I think it's good that they're using eye-catching themes and fun applications for the pages. This will attract more people to use the pages.

Twitter

I always swore that I would never make a twitter and now i have one thanks to MMSCL's Web 2.0 program haha.

Web 2.0

Ugh... I just spent all of this time typing out a paragraph to put in here but then it wouldn't go through. Now I'm going to have to write this out all over again. Okay, here we go.

I have been putting this off for a long time, mostly because of laziness, but also because i don't really find much of a point in making the staff do these things. I feel like all of this is a waste of time and it's virtually pointless, when it comes down to it. Most of the staff already use web 2.0 without even knowing it. The people who do not use the internet should be introduced to it, but i don't think this should be mandatory to all staff. I find it to be a waste of time. But I'll do it anyway just because i have to.
